Chapter 1
Cohen could not wait for his first baseball game of the season. The young ten year old was so overwhelmed with excitement. Cohen wanted to go down to the baseball field next to his house to practice a little, but it was starting to get dark. Cohen’s Mother and father were not too fond of this idea but Cohen pleaded and promised. “It will only be ten minutes I promise mom. Please just one run around the bases? I promise I will be right back.” Cohen said excitingly while pleading on his knees.
“Fine just go but hurry back and don’t talk to any strangers.” Exclaimed Cohen’s mom as she sighed.
Cohen was out the door before his mom could even finish speaking. Cohen was running as fast as his legs could. The sun was getting very low in the sky, but surely he could get one run around the base he thought.
Finally he made it to the baseball field just in time. First he walked to home base stood there looked at his silly cartoon watch. “I can run this whole thing in thirty seconds or less.” Cohen said to himself as he started to stretch his legs for the run. Right foot on home he stares at his watch to time himself. Then Cohen looks up towards first base ready to yell go. That’s when he noticed something a strange something. It was a person or maybe it was a person that was dressed in like a weird human cat. The person stood right at the edge of the woods at the end of outfield just beyond the fence.
Cohen rubbed his eyes no it was not a person at all it was a cat that had human qualities. There was defiantly something off with the way it waved or maybe it was the dead dark eyes of the creature. Just maybe it was the creepy smile. Cohen could not move he felt stuck as though a deep muck had grabbed his ankles. No he was just scared this thing this evil cat creature made his skin crawl.
“Move legs now!” Cohen screamed as he looked at his feet.
“Move now!” Almost hysterical and more frantic this time, like a mad man.
Cohen looked back up and the creature was gone. Where did it go he thought to himself? The hair on the back of Cohen’s neck stood so high he could feel every strand run with the wind. Cohen scanned the woods edge and looked all around. Cohen noticed nothing, but that is when he felt it, the presence of something or someone behind him. Was there something there was he just going crazy he thought, then he closed his eyes head to the ground and he spun 180 degrees. Eyes shut he lifts his head then opens his eyes ready to attack anything that would be there.
“What are you doing son? It’s time to go home, you told your mother you would be right back. It has been twenty minutes Cohen you need to learn to keep your promises. Now let’s go home son tomorrow is a big day.” Cohen’s Father explained.
